Commenting on the saying, “Jordan’s exit from the neck of the glass,” former Prime Minister Taher Al-Masry said, “The bottle has a long neck, and I am not satisfied with it.”

Al-Masry added to Hayat FM radio, “We are late in understanding the true meaning of reform,” noting that for more than 10 years we have been hearing about committees that issue recommendations, but reform is slowly being achieved.

Al-Masry pointed out that the Jordanian constitution is one of the best constitutions in the world, calling on the people not to be afraid of reform, explaining that the election law that will be amended by the House of Representatives is the fifth within a limited period, stressing the need for the stability of legislation.

Al-Masry commented on the Jordanian administration that it should be taught, sarcastically: “A government comes and says everything is ruined and then leaves after 6 months,” and at the same time, “It is good that it stays longer.”

Al-Masry had said during a brainstorming session, hosted by the Middle East Center for Political and Media Studies, late last year, that Jordan is the best Arab country in adhering to the concept of Arabism, and that the current Arab regimes are building regimes, not states.

With regard to political reform in Jordan, he stressed that every effort for change is welcome, asking: But is there actually an intention for change?!

Al-Masry stressed that the only threat to the Jordanian and Palestinian identity is the Zionist project, “and we are now (the Target) for Israel.”

He added, “In Jordan, there is a single Jordanian national identity. We have to believe in this in word and deed. Otherwise, our surroundings and our political territory, which has become more Israeli than it should, will eat us up.”
