On May 24, 2016, during the month of Ramadan, Saudis woke up to the news of the killing of their mother’s twin, and they tried to kill their father and stabbed their third brother in Al-Hamra neighborhood in Riyadh, where they were arrested by the security authorities, after they tried to escape from the scene.

Yesterday, the Saudi Ministry of Interior announced the implementation of Sharia court rulings against 81 defendants in terrorist cases, including the two brothers.

According to the statement of the Ministry of Interior, Saleh bin Ibrahim bin Ali Al-Areni and Khaled bin Ibrahim bin Ali Al-Areni (a Saudi national) were convicted of several crimes, including: their participation in the murder of their mother, attempting to kill their father and brother, and following the blasphemy approach.

Talking about the details of the crime, the twins (Khaled and Saleh), sons of Ibrahim bin Ali Al-Areni, 67 years old, their 73-year-old father, and their 22-year-old brother Suleiman, stabbed their home in Al-Azhar neighborhood in Al-Hamra in Riyadh, killing the mother and injuring her. The father and their brother were seriously injured, and taken to hospital in critical condition.

In carrying out their crime, they used a machete and sharp knives that they brought from outside the house, and they were found at the crime scene, then they left the house, where they seized a car from a resident by force and fled. At the dawn of that fateful day, the security authorities managed to arrest them in Al-Dalam Center in Al-Kharj Governorate.

In the first session of the trial of the ISIS twins, the identity of the twins and their relationship to ISIS was revealed and they were prevented from joining it.

One of the twins stated that the reason they stole two cars on the highway came because they were confused after the accident and did not know where to go, stressing that they did not belong to any organizations. He explained that he had previously called his father by phone during his arrest.

As for the second defendant, he was more daring than his brother to speak before the court, and demanded the assistance of his father and brother in presenting his defense of what he was accused of, while the Public Prosecution demanded the execution of the premeditated murder penalty against them.
