Yesterday, Saturday, the Public Prosecutor of the Criminal Court indicted a 30-year-old man of involuntary manslaughter of his younger sister in Madaba, official sources said.

A senior judicial source confirmed that the 26-year-old victim was strangled to death by her brother late last Thursday night while she was at her family home.

The senior judicial source said that “the suspect fled his family’s home shortly after committing the murder and hid in a relative’s home.”

However, he was arrested a few hours later, after a special police force located his whereabouts and “arrested him without any major incident,” according to the source.

In his initial testimony to investigators, the suspect claimed he was under the influence of drugs and got into a heated argument with his sister before strangling her to death.

The senior judicial source said that “the suspect claimed that he pressed his hands on his sister’s neck after an argument that led to her death by suffocation.”

The judicial source added that the Public Prosecutor of the Criminal Court interrogated a number of suspects and family members of the victim, who said that “the suspect was a rioter and had a previous criminal record.”

A second source said that the victim’s body was taken to the National Center for Forensic Medicine at Al-Bashir Hospital in Amman for autopsy, and it was found that the cause of death was suffocation, according to the autopsy report.

He explained that “forensic specialists discovered several bruises on the victim’s hands, which indicates that she struggled and fought for her life.”

The second source indicated that the Criminal Prosecution ordered the taking of blood and tissue samples from the suspect and the victim for further analysis, and ordered the suspect’s detention in a reformatory and rehabilitation for 15 days pending investigation into the accident.
