Russian billionaire Vladimir Potanin sent a strong warning message to Russian President Vladimir Putin, asking him to think carefully before confiscating the assets of companies that left the country, following the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
He explained that confiscating the assets of companies that left the country, after Moscow invaded Ukraine, would shake investor confidence for decades, and would send Russia back to the tragic days of the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917.
The richest businessman in Russia stressed that the Russian government’s action to take such a step will greatly weaken the Russian economy and set the country back more than 100 years.
Potanin, the head of the metal giant Norilsk Nickel and its largest shareholder, asked the Russian government to act prudently and rationally regarding the confiscation of the assets of Western companies and investors.
He noted that the decision of many companies to suspend work in Russia is primarily emotional, noting that most companies made this decision as a result of external pressures.
“So they will most likely come back to us, and personally I will reserve this opportunity for them,” he added.
It is worth noting that Potanin, 61, ranks 55th on the Forbes list of the world’s richest people, with a net worth of $17.4 billion.
It is noteworthy that the Bolshevik Revolution, which took place in Russia in 1917, was carried out by the hungry Russian masses, ending the tsarist rule and leading to the establishment of the Soviet Union.
