In an interview with the Russian RIA Novosti news agency, the expert points out that the desire to eat sweets is not a physiological need that expresses the body’s need for carbohydrates. “Our brain disrupts eating behavior in a very dose-dependent manner,” she says. “If we leave some sweets for the morning, after we are ready to stop eating delicious foods during the day, the brain will signal that this nutrient is low. So we try to prolong the period of enjoyment.” In this way, we gradually increase the amount of sweets we eat. In order not to be deceived by the brain, we must answer the question, “Why am I eating too much candy?”. By identifying these causes, it will be possible to combat these emotional, psychological and physiological cravings by eating sweets.

“It is important to replace simple carbohydrates (sugar) with complex carbohydrates. Honey does not work in this case. So it is better to use a plant-based sugar substitute such as stevia (a plant that raises the level of glucose and insulin in the blood), but it is lighter compared to sugar and honey.”

The expert advises eating fresh fruits or fruits instead of canned juices, in order for the body to obtain the necessary amount of dietary fiber. White flour bread should also be replaced with whole grain bread that contains bran.
