A new American study said that concussion as a result of trauma reduces the risk of pregnancy in the two years following injury, compared to others who have suffered injuries in other parts of the body.
“The research team found that over the 24 months after a concussion, the risk of pregnancy decreased by 76% compared to the control group,” said researcher Martina Anto Ukra from the University of Rochester in New York.

She added that those who reported sexual weakness in the 10 weeks after infection had an 84% lower risk of pregnancy.

According to the Journal of Head Trauma Rehabilitation, the study was conducted with 102 women who had head injuries that required a visit to the emergency room, and 143 women who had traumas other than the brain. Domestic violence was not one of its causes.
The study supervisor explained the results that concussion affects hormonal regulation, which destabilizes progesterone levels, affects the regularity of the menstrual cycle, and can lead to a temporary imbalance in sexual function.
The analysis of the study indicated that concussion causes depression and increases psychological stress.
The study called on medical institutions to take into account the special impact of concussion on women.
