The US Congress has approved the allocation of $1,650 billion as a grant to Jordan, as part of the US budget for the year 2022.
According to the budget items, which were approved on Thursday, of these amounts, no less than 845.1 million dollars will be allocated to support the Jordanian government’s budget, in addition to 425 million dollars in military aid.
Regarding the distribution of this aid, a previous report by the US Congressional Research Center showed that about 1.2 billion dollars were directed as economic aid, and the remaining amount as military aid.
Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Nasser Al-Shraideh, discussed with Deputy Director of the US Agency for International Development Isobel Coleman the US aid program to Jordan for the coming period and the priorities and areas of future development cooperation.
Al-Shraideh expressed the Jordanian government’s aspiration for more cooperation between the two countries, especially in light of the existing coordination for the purposes of concluding a new “memorandum of understanding” regarding US aid to the kingdom for the coming period starting in 2023.
The media office at the US Embassy had expected in a previous interview that $910.8 million would be allocated to cover all economic sectors for the 2022 budget.
“Out of the total, $475 million will be allocated as a direct cash transfer to the budget, $147 million to the water sector, about $91,457 million for economic development and the energy sector, $77 million to support the democracy and good governance sector, $80 million to the education sector, and about $40,343 million to the education sector. Health,” according to the media office.
Jordanian Ambassador to the United States Dina Kawar I wrote On Twitter: “We appreciate the support approved by the US Congress for the Kingdom within the 2022 budget, which will contribute to alleviating the burdens and challenges facing Jordan today.”

In February 2018, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the United States and Jordan worth $6.375 billion ($1.275 billion annually) from fiscal year 2018 through fiscal year 2022.
Jordan and the United States are currently negotiating a new aid program agreement for the years (2023-2028).
