The former Minister of Political Development, Dr. Nofan Al-Ajarmeh, called on the government to abolish the defense law.

Al-Ajarmeh said in a post on his Facebook page, yesterday evening, Friday, “Two years ago, I demanded the application of the Defense Law to limit the aggravation of the pandemic, and after the decline of this disease and the thawing of its effectiveness, thank God, the government should review its decision in this regard to cancel the work of this law.” .

Al-Ajarma recalled his previous post in 2020, and the following is its full text:

Defense Law…

The spread of epidemics is a compelling reason to apply the Defense Law in all or part of the Kingdom’s territory in accordance with Article (2) of Defense Law No. (13) of 1992. The implementation of this law is announced by a royal decree issued based on a decision of the Council of Ministers.

The application of this law is entrusted to the Prime Minister to take the necessary measures and procedures to secure public safety and defend the Kingdom without being bound by the provisions of the ordinary laws in force.

The law granted the Prime Minister the exercise of many powers, including:

(a) Placing restrictions on the freedom of persons to meet, move and reside.

b- Assigning any person to perform any work or perform any service within his capacity.

C- Searching people, places and vehicles without being bound by the provisions of any other law, and ordering the use of appropriate force in case of objection.

D- Evacuating or isolating some areas and imposing a curfew.

H- Determining the dates for opening and closing all or some of the public stores.

i- Organizing and specifying means of transportation and communications between different regions, and closing any road or stream.
