What do we import and export from Russia and Ukraine?

The volume of trade exchange (exports and imports) of Jordan with Russia and Ukraine during the first 11 months of last year amounted to 308.1 million dinars, according to data of the Amman Chamber of Commerce reviewed by the “Kingdom”.

According to the data, the trade balance tilts in favor of Russia and Ukraine with a value of 298.3 million dinars, while imported goods vary from grains, oils, live animals and others.

The trade balance represents the difference between the value of imports and exports, and it is one of the important economic indicators, and one of the inputs to the countries’ GDP.

Jordan imports many products from Russia, including (according to the imported value for the year 2020): (barley, chickpeas, iron, copper, sugar products, sunflower seed oil) and others, while the most important Jordanian exports to Russia for the same year were: (fertilizers, dates, clothing and its accessories).

Diplomatic relations between Jordan and the Russian Federation were established on August 21, 1963, on solid foundations of friendship, cooperation and mutual respect.

Jordan and Russia are bound by many political, economic and cultural agreements that had a prominent role in strengthening relations between the two countries and building a real and strategic partnership in various fields. There is a joint Jordanian-Russian committee that meets periodically to follow up on areas of joint cooperation, especially in the fields of agriculture, tourism, transportation and energy.

With regard to the volume of trade exchange between Jordan and Russia, in 2020 it amounted to about 189.4 million dinars (1.8 exports and 187.6 imports), and thus the balance (imports minus exports) tilts in favor of Russia with a value of 185.8 million dinars.

The trade exchange during the first 11 months of last year amounted to 182.8 million dinars (1.4 exports and 181.4 imports), with a deficit of 180 million dinars in favor of Russia.

By following up on the most prominent commodities that were imported from Russia, the data showed that it was durum wheat (wheat) for non-seeds, with a value of 63.1 million dinars, while the highest exported commodity was printing ink, except for black, with a value of 458.7 thousand dinars.

Ukraine

Going to the economic relations with Ukraine, the data shows that the most important Jordanian imports from Ukraine according to the imported value for the year 2020 are (cereals, animal and vegetable oils, live animals of the bovine family, sulfur), while the most important Jordanian exports to Ukraine according to the exported value are dried dates.

The trade exchange between the two countries in 2020 amounted to about 141.2 million dinars (1.1 exports and 140.1 imports), the deficit in favor of Ukraine amounted to 139 million dinars, and the highest commodity imported in that year was grain with a value of 52.1 million dinars.

Jordan recognized Ukraine’s independence on December 28, 1991. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on April 19, 1992 through the exchange of diplomatic notes. The Consulate of Ukraine started its work in Jordan in January 2002, and in February 2003 the Consulate was transferred to the Embassy of Ukraine in Jordan.

The trade exchange during the first 11 months of last year amounted to about 125.3 million dinars (exports 3.5 million and imports 121.8 million), thus tilting the trade balance in favor of Ukraine with a value of 118.3 million dinars.

The highest commodity that was imported during the first 11 months of last year was sunflower seed oil, with a value of 24.2 million dinars, and the highest commodity exported was medicines, with a value of 2.8 million dinars.

The value of Jordan’s total exports during the first eleven months of last year amounted to 5997.2 million dinars, an increase of 18.3% compared to the same period in 2020, according to the monthly report of the Department of Foreign Trade Statistics.

The coverage ratio of total exports to imports reached 43.4% during the first eleven months of 2021, while the coverage ratio reached 45.6% compared to the same period in 2020, a decrease of 2.2 percentage points.
