The head of the Car Rental Syndicate, Saleh Jalouk, called for extending the operating life of rented cars to 8 years, based on studies confirming the importance of this step in reviving the sector that is still suffering from the repercussions of the Corona pandemic.

The Board of Directors of the Land Transport Regulatory Authority had given the lease cars whose operating life had expired last year a deadline to write off or replace until the end of this year.

Jalluk told Jordan News Agency (Petra) today, Thursday, that the sector is looking forward to extending the operating life of its cars to 8 years to include all cars, stressing that this decision will solve the most prominent problem of the sector affected by the pandemic.

He added that the policy of relaying problems has become useless in light of the economic burdens faced by investors in the sector, which are the most severe in decades, which calls for radical solutions to the problems faced by the sector.

Jallouk pointed out that the decision to grant rental cars whose service life has expired a deadline for cancellation or replacement is not clear and has not been formally addressed to the union, stressing the need to approve a detailed plan to revive the sector, which is a key driver of tourism activity, to include providing exemptions from licensing fees and tax cuts.
