144 male and female candidates withdrew from the “local elections”

The Independent Election Commission announced today that the deadline for the withdrawal of candidates from the provincial and municipal council elections and the Amman Municipality Council has expired.

According to the commission’s spokesman, Muhammad Khair Al-Rawashdeh, the number of candidates who withdrew from the upcoming elections reached 144, including 128 male and 16 female candidates. 19 males and 5 females, and the number of those who withdrew from candidacy for the municipal council elections was 65 male and female candidates, including 54 males and 11 females.

The number of those who withdrew from candidacy for the Amman Municipality Council reached 4 candidates, all of them males, bringing the total number of candidates for the provincial and municipal council elections and the Amman Municipality Council after the withdrawals to 4,647 candidates, including 3801 males and 846 females.

According to Executive Instructions No. (4) of 2021 regarding candidacy for provincial council elections, municipal councils and the Amman Municipality Council, any candidate may withdraw his candidacy by submitting a written request to the election president fourteen days before the official date. No withdrawal shall be considered for any candidate after the end of this Duration, and the Commission shall announce the withdrawal of any candidate in the municipality/electoral district on its website.

It is noteworthy that the Board of Commissioners of the Independent Election Commission has set the twenty-second of this month as the date for voting for the provincial council elections, municipal councils and the Amman Municipality Council.
