The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abdel Karim Al-Daghmi, called on Wednesday the members of the Executive Office to meet next Sunday, in order to discuss the recurring issue of losing the quorum.
Al-Daghmi decided to adjourn the parliament session on Wednesday, due to the lack of a quorum, while he tore up papers that were in front of him, angry at the loss of the quorum as a result of a deputy leaving the session despite Al-Daghmi’s request from him not to leave.
In the morning, Representative Saleh Al-Armouti demanded that cell phones be turned off during parliament sessions, as they are a source of disturbance and confusion for the deputies.
Al-Armouti called on Parliament Speaker Abdul Karim Al-Daghmi to take action regarding cell phones, but Al-Daghmi said that “closing the phones will push the deputies out of the parliament to use the phone, and therefore we will lose the quorum.”
During the last sessions of the House of Representatives, the issue of losing a quorum was repeated, forcing the Speaker to adjourn the sessions without completing the agenda.
Representative Moussa Hantash deplored the issue of repeating the loss of a quorum for parliament sessions, and thus adjourned the holding of those sessions, calling on his fellow deputies to commit to attending sessions that deal with very important issues affecting the lives of citizens.
In a statement to Al-Bawsala, Representative Hantash attributed the reasons behind repeated cases of missing a quorum for parliament sessions to the existence of “a state of indifference on the part of some,” while membership of the House of Representatives gives the representative a sense of importance, according to the constitutional text that affirms that the system of government is a representative monarchy and hereditary .
But “Hantash” stressed that the deputy is in a position of responsibility and accountable before God Almighty first and before the people who elected him, and therefore he has a moral and national responsibility to attend the sessions that are held and prepare for the sessions by studying the laws discussed by the Council, to come up with valuable legislation that reflects positively on the homeland and the citizen.
The representative also pointed out that there is a “weakness of religious and moral scruples, as the position of the representative is a very huge responsibility,” referring in the same context to the weak presence of deputies in parliamentary committees, for some committee meetings, which have 11 members, only two or three representatives attend the meetings.
And about the presence of a feeling by the members of the House of Representatives that the House of Representatives will be dissolved early after approving the constitutional amendments and the laws of parties and representatives, Representative “Hantash” refused to consider this a reason for the parliament’s intentions on the sessions, stressing that the House did not begin to discuss the laws of representatives and parties, and the data do not indicate the dissolution of the House After the laws are passed.
With regard to the meeting that will be held by the Executive Office of the House of Representatives next Sunday to discuss the issue of repeated loss of the quorum for sessions, the representative expressed his hope that a solution to this problem will be reached, noting that the representative came to the parliament with self-motivation, and he must continue with the same motivation that he had before The election.
