Journalists who completed the legal training period at the Jordan Journalists Syndicate sent a letter to the Council of the Jordanian Journalists Syndicate, asking it to put an end to the differences between the council members and to refrain from personalizing matters.
In their statement, a copy of which was received in the Jordan News Online newspaper, the journalists demanded to proceed with the procedures for completing the applications of the trainees, who completed all the necessary papers two years ago.
In their statement, they also called on all members of the Syndicate Council to unite the internal ranks and to stay away from the disputes of the Syndicate elections that significantly affect the performance of the Syndicate and the Council, which has been in its place since the date of its election.
Following is the text of the statement:
For more than three months, we have been vacillating between the membership committee and the Council of the Journalists Syndicate, with impossible requests that affect the livelihoods of journalists and personify the union’s internal house in the liquidation of the elections of the Council of the Syndicate, in which only trained journalists and members of the General Assembly will lose.
We are surprised how some members of the Syndicate Council are allowed to disrupt our requests and take them to homes under the pretext of checking for a period of about a month without allowing anyone to open the door for discussion. It is expired as the social security statement and the non-judgment certificate, and when we brought the social security statement, it was rejected the first time because we brought it “on line”, although the law stipulates its adoption, so we again begged the security to give us a paper copy with their confirmation of the electronic approval and almost rejected the non-conviction certificates Because it is electronic, and it was accepted after the intervention of some members of the Council and confirming that this document is not given in paper but exclusively in electronic form. Nevertheless, to complete the course of the boat, all colleagues brought what was requested of them.
Today, we are surprised that the Syndicate is asking journalists for impossible requests that show the great rift that exists among the members of the Council, and the inexperience of some in union work, by bringing papers proving that they are journalists, even though most of the applicants work in prestigious and well-known media institutions such as the Radio and Television Corporation, the Kingdom Channel and the Jordan News Agency.” Petra”, in which the social security papers proved that they were employed as “journalists” without interruption and without duplication. The requests were represented by questioning the innocence of formations issued by government media institutions by requesting explanations defining our work during the past two years and confirmation from the institution of the appointment capacity, knowing that the innocence of formations is an official document It shows the job grade and the last promotion, which is given only to the employee classified on the civil service system.
We warn the Syndicate Council against procrastinating in completing our membership and not implementing the decision of the Journalists Syndicate Council in the 10-12-2019 session, which confirmed the completion and legality of our papers, otherwise we will take escalatory steps by sit-in and strike in front of the Syndicate’s doors, whose “legal and regular” doors were and are still open to all. Some are trying to “close its doors to settle personal union accounts.”
And in the event that the union’s doors remain closed in our faces, we will resort to the Jordanian and international civil society organizations to protect and the impartial judiciary represented by the Administrative Court, whose fair and just decisions we follow.
