Dr. Yulia Begaryova, a Russian nutritionist, declared that it is better in winter to eat seasonal fruits and vegetables, but this does not mean that greenhouse products are not useful.

In an interview with the Russian Prime News Agency, the expert points out that some people do not buy the fruits and vegetables available in the markets throughout the year, but rather eat those they stored in the fall. Which fruits and vegetables retain their beneficial properties until the end of spring?

According to her, seasonal vegetables and fruits are always better than non-seasonal i.e. stored. But it is not correct to compare tomatoes and cucumbers with carrots, potatoes and beets, because they are vegetables that contain different vitamins, minerals and carbohydrates.

“These are vegetables with different ingredients and contain different vitamins, minerals and carbohydrates. For example, 100 grams of potatoes contain 17 grams of carbohydrates, while 100 grams of tomatoes contain only 3.2 grams,” she says.

She adds, the diet should contain seasonal vegetables, but in winter, tomatoes and cucumbers produced in greenhouse farms can be eaten.
