MP Omar Al-Ayasra confirmed that the Jordanian political reform project is on its way, despite some people’s skepticism about it, indicating that this project was legislated in accordance with the constitutional amendments by Parliament.

In the context of his speech to the “Voice of the Kingdom” program on “The Kingdom” screen this evening, Tuesday, Al-Ayasra added that some people want to “smash” this reform project, considering that Jordan is still a traditional country and there is a deep state, calling for adherence to this project.

He believed that the next project is a power-sharing project, pointing out that there is sometimes a fading in the progress of this project, and at the other time there is a luster for it.

Ayasra stressed that we do not have the luxury of waiting for this reform project.

It is noteworthy that the Royal Decree was issued forming the Royal Committee to Modernize the Political System of 92 members, headed by former Prime Minister Al-Ain, Samir Al-Rifai, on June 10, 2021.

The Royal Committee for the Modernization of the Political System has started its work since last June, in implementation of the royal message.

His Majesty the King directed the committee to draft a new election law and a new draft law for political parties, and to consider constitutional amendments that are legally related to the two laws and parliamentary work mechanisms.

With regard to constitutional amendments, the amendment of the constitution for 2022 entered into force, after its publication in the Official Gazette, at the end of last January.

The National Assembly, with its two parts, notables and representatives, approved the law after it was referred by the government.

The amendment of the Jordanian constitution comes in accordance with its compelling reasons, to consolidate the principle of the rule of law, establish the principle of separation of powers, and enhance the independence of parliamentary work in a manner that guarantees the effectiveness of the parliamentary programmatic blocs, and guarantees the constitutional oversight role of members of the National Assembly, developing, strengthening and advancing legislative performance, empowering women, youth and people with disabilities, and promoting their role and place in society.

It also aims to develop parliamentary work mechanisms to keep pace with the political and legal developments that the Jordanian constitutional system has witnessed since the promulgation of the constitution in 1952, in a way that enhances the system of partisan work and political life in general, and to give members of the House of Representatives the right to choose the speaker of the Council and evaluate his performance annually, and grant two-thirds of the members of the Council the right to dismiss the speaker. .

As well as fortifying political parties and protecting them from any political influences and assigning the authority to supervise their establishment and follow up their affairs to the independent commission, as it is a neutral and independent body from the government in a way that enhances the principles of justice, equality and equal opportunities and distances itself from any government influences, and unify the jurisprudence issued in the appeals against the validity of the prosecution of members of the Council Representatives.

The amendment also came to establish the principle of transparency and equal opportunities among candidates for the parliamentary elections, to establish the rule of non-conflict of interest and to tighten restrictions on the actions and actions that members of the Senate and the House of Representatives are prohibited from doing during their membership.

On the other hand, the National Security and Foreign Policy Council is established to handle all issues related to the Kingdom’s defense, national security and foreign policy.
