Early warning symptoms of cancer that can be detected when you wake up in the morning

Medical professionals generally point out that the key to cancer survival is its early detection. Unfortunately, symptoms can remain either non-existent or hidden until the disease progresses.

However, it is still necessary to know the warning symptoms of cancer, and how to spot any unusual physical changes, which necessitate a visit to the doctor to check the underlying causes.

According to Abbas Kinani, a pharmacist at Chemist Click, the way you wake up in the morning can be a big warning sign of cancer.

And Kenani warned that waking up with a “persistent” sore throat that’s been there for more than two weeks with no signs of improvement, is a tell-tale sign of cancer.

The pharmacist also noted that the same applies to coughing. He explained: “Smokers often wake up with a cough in the morning. However, a persistent cough for longer than two weeks should be checked. Especially if you are a smoker.”

Kanani added that there is another telltale sign that may appear in the morning and continue throughout the day, which is fatigue. “It is normal to feel a little tired in the morning, but if this is not something usual for you, or if you notice persistent tiredness throughout the day, you should check it out,” he says.

He said fatigue is particularly worrisome if accompanied by other worrisome signs.

“If you wake up in the morning and the bed is wet with sweat, this indicates that you may have been experiencing night sweats. So check this with your doctor, especially if the night sweats are accompanied by fatigue, weight loss or bruising,” Kanani explained.

Common symptoms of cancer include:

An unusual lump or swelling anywhere

Unexplained weight loss

Changes in stool or urine.

There are things you can do to reduce your risk of developing cancer. Cancer Research UK explains that “not smoking is the single most important thing that can be done to reduce the risk of cancer”.

The charity explains: “The chemicals in cigarette smoke get into our bloodstream and can cause damage around the body. And if you smoke, the best thing you can do for your health is to quit.”
