The Monitoring Program for Elections conducted a study on the Jordanian parties’ orientations for the upcoming municipal elections and provincial councils. The study targeted all political parties, which numbered 55 licensed and registered at the Ministry of Political and Parliamentary Affairs.

The results of the study showed that the number of parties that nominated a number of their members for the upcoming elections reached 24 out of 55 parties, which means that 57% of political parties do not have any male or female candidates, as the number of party candidates reached 74 male and female candidates.

The results showed that 19 political parties ran for the position of mayor, distributed over 8 governorates. The number of male and female candidates for municipal council membership reached 24 male and female candidates, who were distributed within 17 municipal councils. There was only one candidate for the Amman Municipality Council, and a total of 30 male and female candidates ran for membership in the governorate councils within 8 provinces.

At the level of party women candidates, their number reached 22, with 11 female candidates running for provincial council elections, 11 female candidates for municipal council membership, and no party woman running for membership in the Amman Municipality. It is worth mentioning that the number of party candidates within the age group less than 35 years has reached 4 candidates.

Regarding the parties’ satisfaction with the Local Administration Law of 2021, it was found that 11.1% of the parties are largely satisfied with the law, 53.7% are moderately satisfied, 3.7% are weakly satisfied, and 31.5% are not satisfied with the 2021 Local Administration Law.

And 75.9% of the parties said that money will play a negative role during the upcoming elections, and 18.5% said that money will have no role, while it was found that 5.6% said that the role of money will be positive.

As for the extent of the political parties’ confidence in the ability of the independent commission to manage the electoral process, it was found that 63% of the parties trust a large degree, 18.5% trust a moderate degree, 9.2% trust a limited degree, and 9.3% do not trust the independent commission’s ability to manage the electoral process. the electoral process.

Regarding the integrity of the upcoming electoral process, 35.2% of the parties said that the upcoming elections will be completely fair, and 50% said that the elections will be fair to some extent, while it was found that 14.8% said they will be unfair.

With regard to the proposed new parties law, 11.1% of the parties said that they were highly satisfied, 48.1% were moderately satisfied, 13% were satisfied to a limited extent, and 27.8% were not satisfied. As for the new election law proposal, 31.5% of the parties said they were satisfied Large, 50% are moderately satisfied, 7.4% are limited, and 11.1% are not satisfied.

Dr. Amer Bani Amer Madry, Al-Hayat Center – Monitor, said that the weak participation of the current parties in the electoral process indicates the necessity and importance of the outputs of the Royal Committee to modernize the political system related to strengthening party life and changing the existing approach in the participation of parties, and Bani Amer stressed that the participation of parties in any electoral process It gives an indication of the parties’ ability to produce elected political leaders at the local and national levels. Bani Amer stressed the need to crystallize national efforts so that the parties have an active role in any electoral process.
