The Food and Drug Administration called on Sunday to stop using Similac Elementum infant formula as a precaution, after the US Food and Drug Administration warned about the presence of salmonella and Chronobacter sakazaki bacteria in an open and used package of the product.
The General Manager of the Corporation, Nizar Mhaidat, explained that the Corporation began to take precautionary measures immediately after the warning was issued, noting that the product “is not registered with the Corporation and is manufactured on the same production line as the products registered in the Jordanian market.”
Mhaidat added in a statement, “The procedures included stopping the sale and circulation of the two batches number 23393k800 25050k800 of Similac total comfort milk product and batch number 30384Z200 of the similac elecare milk product in pharmacies, warehouses and all places of distribution, and withdrawing batches imported to the Jordanian market from the above milk producers until they are re-examined and arrival arrives.” Final verification report from the manufacturer and health authorities.
In this regard, he stressed that “all operations imported to the Jordanian market are examined in the institution’s laboratories before the decision to trade them is issued.”
