The World Health Organization recommends that children continue to breastfeed until they are two years old.

The organization’s recommendations for breastfeeding were as follows:

“1- Breastfeeding represents an ideal way to provide optimal food that enables infants to grow and develop in a healthy manner; It is also an essential component of the reproductive process, and has important implications for maternal health.

2- Exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of a child’s life is considered – at the level of the population – the most appropriate method of feeding infants.

3- The infants should then be given complementary foods, and continue to breastfeed them until they reach two years of age or more.

4- Breast milk contributes to sensory and cognitive development.

5- Protecting infants from infectious and chronic diseases.

6- Breastfeeding contributes to enhancing the health and well-being of mothers.

7- It helps to space births, and reduces the risk of ovarian or breast cancer.

8- Breastfeeding increases family and national resources.

9- Breastfeeding is a safe food method that does not harm the environment.

10- Exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months contributes to reducing infant deaths caused by common childhood diseases, such as diarrhea or pneumonia, and helps to recover from diseases quickly.

11- Mother’s milk provides all the necessary energy and nutrients for the infant in the first months of his life, and that milk continues to cover about half of the child’s nutritional needs or more during the second half of the first year, and about a third of those needs during the second year of his life “.
