Russian academic Vadim Pokrovsky announced that experts from the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of the Consumer Protection Agency in Russia are creating a genetic method for treating HIV.

In an interview with the Russian RIA Novosti news agency, the academic points out that “experts from the Central Institute for Epidemiological Research use a somewhat different approach, which also belongs to gene therapy methods, using a special technology that separates parts of the genome in which the virus is contained. Researchers have made specific progress in this. direction”.

Pokrovsky adds that a method is used in many countries that involves taking cells from the infected person and after modifying them, they are returned to the body to gradually replace the cells exposed to the disease. But we must know, that any method associated with changing the human genome, needs a deep and comprehensive examination to ensure that it is safe and will not cause any harm to the body. Therefore, these studies are taking place very slowly, and need sufficient financial allocations.
