Vote on the draft general budget and government units tomorrow, Monday

Sources in the House of Representatives said, on Monday, that the House will vote on the two draft laws of the general budget and the budgets of government units for the year 2022.

The House of Representatives completed its speeches for the fifth day (Sunday), on the two draft laws of the general budget and the budgets of government units for the year 2022.

The files of the living situation of citizens, raising prices, high rates of poverty and unemployment, the repercussions of the Corona pandemic, and economic policies remained at the forefront of parliamentary concerns, in addition to pushing for an approach regarding the parliamentary demand related to increasing low-paid workers and retirees.

During their interventions, the deputies stressed the importance of shifting from the traditional method of preparing the budget to a program budget, which includes creative and creative economic solutions to issues that trouble citizens, the most important of which is the employment of the unemployed and improving the quality of services. To restore the confidence of the citizen.

They stressed the importance of achieving tax justice, controlling public spending, addressing the high indebtedness, reducing the debt service rate, collecting debts owed to the treasury, supporting the agricultural and tourism sectors, as well as reevaluating water, energy and electricity generation agreements, raising the rate of Jordanian women’s participation in work, and not Restricting freedoms and stopping security interference in appointment decisions.

Parliamentary interventions included demands to support the armed forces and security services, enable the official media to perform their duties, be serious about achieving comprehensive health insurance, improving health services, developing the reality of schools and education, and holding those responsible for power outages during the last snow storm to account, not to mention regional service demands, and others. Concerning appointment to leadership positions, justice in the distribution of university scholarships, and a reconsideration of the issue of clan jalwa.

It is noteworthy that the Parliamentary Finance Committee recommended, in its report on the two draft budgets, a reduction in public spending by about 74 million dinars, 15 million from the total expenditures in the general budget, amounting to 10.6 billion, and 59 million from the expenditures of government units’ budgets, amounting to 1.5 billion dinars.

According to Article 112 of the Constitution, the National Assembly has the right, when discussing the budget, to decrease expenditures, but it does not have the right to increase it, neither by way of amendment nor by way of proposal.

On Monday, February 7, 2022, the House of Representatives began discussing the decisions of its Finance Committee regarding the two draft laws of the general budget and government units for the year 2022.

After the discussion of the two bills is completed, the deputies shall proceed to vote on the two laws in accordance with the provisions of Paragraph (2) of Article (112) of the Constitution and pursuant to the provisions of Paragraph (b) of Article (82) of the bylaws of the House of Representatives.
