“Jordan News” learned that the Chief of the Royal Court, Youssef Hassan Al-Issawi, and the Prime Minister, Bishr Al-Khasawneh, will pay a visit to the Irbid Cultural Center tomorrow, Saturday, to celebrate the city of Irbid as the capital of Arab culture for the year 2022.
It is noteworthy that the selection of Irbid as the capital of Arab culture came by the United Nations Organization for Culture and Science (UNESCO) after its nomination by the Ministry of Culture, which provided the organization with a file containing the compelling reasons for choosing the cities that deserve to be the capital of Arab culture, in accordance with the instructions, foundations and standards that Developed to this end.
The choice of Irbid governorate came after the meeting of the Arab Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization held on the eleventh and twelfth of March 2014 in the city of Tunis, where it was agreed that the following Arab cities would be capitals of Arab culture, which is the Algerian city of “Qusnita” in 2015. The city of “Sfax” Tunisia in 2016, the Iraqi city of “Basra” in 2018, the Sudanese “Port Sudan” in 2019, and “Bethlehem” in 2020, then Irbid, the capital of Arab culture in 2021, which was postponed to 2022 due to the Corona pandemic.
