The National Committee for Epidemic Control confirmed that the decision to postpone the start of the second semester in schools came to give the Omicron mutant of the emerging corona virus “an opportunity to prevail in Jordan.”

Committee member Saeed Jaradat said, today, Friday, that returning to schools is a demand for all, but the decision to postpone the start of the class until the current date of February 20, came to give Omicron a chance to become prevalent in Jordan.

Jaradat told Al-Mamlaka channel that the decline of the wave of the spread of Corona needs 4 or 5 weeks, and therefore “the date for the return of school students on the 20th of this month may not be the most appropriate date for student gatherings in schools … and with the return of school students … the infection rate of students With the age group, it will increase even more.”

He added, “There are other plans if the wave continues in its peak in this picture with the imminent return of schools,” noting that the increase in numbers means an increase in hospital admissions, and there are 300 patients in intensive care inside hospitals.

Jaradat spoke of an “assessment of the situation in general,” expressing his wish for the safe return of school students.

And the government decided last month to postpone the start of the second semester in public and private schools, from the kindergarten class to the eleventh grade, until February 20, according to the national program.

The government said that the decision to postpone the start of the second semester comes with the aim of preserving the health of students and educational staff and contributing to breaking the epidemic curve that is witnessing an escalation.

The number of confirmed infections with the Corona virus in Jordan during the current epidemiological week exceeded 112,000, as it ended today, Friday, at a time when Jordan is going through a fourth wave of the spread of the Corona virus.

The number of infections in the epidemiological week, which begins on Saturday and ends on Friday, reached 112,412, an increase of about 90% over the previous epidemiological week. (The kingdom)
