The Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture, Water and Badia recommended reducing work permit fees for expatriates working in the agricultural sector, equivalent to the participation rate in the Social Security Corporation.
Its Chairman, MP Muhammad Al-Alaqmeh, stressed, while presiding over a meeting of the committee held today, Wednesday, in the presence of the Minister of Labor Nayef Istitieh, and the Director General of the Guarantee Corporation Dr. with their demands.
The government had taken a decision recently that included the inclusion of migrant workers in the agricultural sector with “social security.”
Al-Alaqmeh said that the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II in support of the agricultural sector require everyone to study all the demands of farmers and to identify the most prominent issues that hinder the development of these sectors in order to ensure the achievement of the goals of providing food security for the citizen.
He also called on the government to cancel the decision to include expatriate workers with social security, which increases the financial challenges facing the sector, which suffers greatly due to climatic conditions as well as the crises in the region.
Al-Alaqmeh pointed out that such decisions would increase the challenges facing the agricultural sector, stressing the importance of reducing the financial costs borne by the farmer.
He added that the committee will follow up all challenges facing the agricultural sector with the government to develop radical solutions for this sector and support it.
