Two Syrian girls died as a result of the harsh winter weather in northwest Syria, where snow and heavy rains destroyed hundreds of tents in camps for the displaced and put their residents at risk, the United Nations said Tuesday.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs told AFP: “Two displaced girls from the southern countryside of Aleppo, one of them aged seven days and the other two months, died on Tuesday morning as a result of the cold and frost” in Idlib governorate.
An AFP correspondent in the region indicated that: “The two girls were taken to Al-Rahman Specialist Hospital in the town of Harbnoush, which, like other hospitals in Idlib, received a large number of children suffering from bronchitis as a result of the cold and frost.”
