The Minister of Agriculture, Eng. Khaled Al-Hanaifat, addressed the Director General of the Jordan Electricity Company since the first of last November to confirm the readiness of the Ministry of Agriculture to provide the required cooperation regarding the precautionary measures necessary to prevent power outages due to some forest trees touching the electrical network.
According to the book, which “Akhbar Jordan” obtained a copy of, Al-Hanaifat confirmed the existence of a main operations room that works around the clock in the Al-Haraj Directorate, linked with sub-operating rooms in the various directorates of agriculture in all governorates of the Kingdom.
Following is the text of the book:
And the media spokesman for the Ministry of Agriculture, Lawrence Majali, confirmed that the ministry sent a letter to the Electricity Company last October to coordinate with the company and work on trimming trees that affect electrical wires in the streets, as part of preparations for the winter season.
Al-Majali added, during his interview with the “Pulse of the Country” program on the “Roya” channel, on Sunday evening, that the ministry will start planting new varieties of trees that can resist winds and withstand snow.
He stressed that the electricity company can trim trees in the streets that may hinder its work without referring to the Ministry of Agriculture, indicating that for 20 years no violation has been recorded against the Ministry of Agriculture.
Al-Majali added that the ministry is responsible for all trees outside the cities, while the trees inside the cities fall under a joint responsibility with the Amman Municipality, municipalities and water and electricity service providers.
