An international team, comprising researchers from the Universities of Bern and Geneva and the National Center for Efficiency, studied one of the strangest planets known for its extremism and very strange faces, after observations carried out by a sophisticated telescope.
The strange planet named “WASP-189b” was first observed with the help of the “CHEOPS” space telescope, as it was considered one of the most strange planets for scientists.
According to the new study published in the journal Nature Astronomy, an international team of researchers led by Lund University has shown for the first time that the atmosphere of one of the most extreme known planets may also have very distinct layers and different properties.
The planet “WASP-189b” is centered outside our solar system, and is located 322 light-years from Earth, and observations observed using the “CHEOPS” space telescope revealed that the planet is 20 times closer to its host star than Earth to the sun, and its temperature in the river reaches about about 3200 degrees Celsius.
Recent observations with the HARPS spectrometer at La Silla Observatory in Chile have now for the first time allowed researchers to take a closer look at the atmosphere of this Jupiter-like planet.
According to the researchers, the gases left their mark in the atmosphere of the planet “WASP-189b”, where iron, chromium, vanadium, magnesium and manganese are formed.
The team found a particularly interesting material, a gas containing titanium “titanium oxide”, which is very rare on Earth, but it can play an important role in the atmosphere of the alien planet, as it represents its role as the role of the ozone layer on the planet, according to the article published in scitechdaily journal.
“In the past, astronomers often assumed that the atmospheres of exoplanets existed as a unified layer and tried to understand it in this way, but our results show that even the atmospheres of gas giant planets that have been exposed to intense radiation have complex three-dimensional structures.”
“In our analysis, we saw that the fingerprints of different gases changed little compared to our predictions. We believe that strong winds and other processes can generate these changes. And because the fingerprints of different gases have been altered in different ways, we think this indicates that they are present in strata,” the study read. different, similar to how water vapor and ozone fingerprints on Earth appear differently from a distance, because they mostly occur in different layers of the atmosphere.”
