Al Arabiya TV quoted sources as saying that the Jordanian army is engaged in almost daily confrontations with drug smugglers from Syria.

The unnamed sources added that the army informed the Syrian side of its intention to kill anyone who crosses the border illegally.

She stressed that organized drug smuggling under the auspices of the militias forced the army to change the rules of engagement, while Jordan would work to ensure the security of its territory from any border threats from Syria.

She pointed out that the Jordanian army is facing smugglers in the absence of the Syrian army, and the smugglers’ goal is to transport drugs to the Gulf countries through Jordanian territory.

The sources revealed that Jordan had previously informed the Syrian regime of the need to restore control over its borders.
