The former Minister of Health, Dr. Walid Al-Maani, revealed that global epidemiological estimates indicate that half of the world’s population, by the end of next March, will have been infected with the Omicron mutated from the emerging corona virus.

Al-Maani added, in his speech to the “Pulse of the Country” program on the “Roya” channel screen, this evening, Monday, that the Corona virus has spread in the Kingdom and has thus become a societal disease, indicating that the numbers recorded by the Kingdom today of Corona injuries were expected.

He added that the omicron mutant has its own characteristics and ability to spread, calling for the need to differentiate between confirmed infections and other infections that are recorded as a result of infection, especially since 90% of omicron infections are very mild.

Al-Maani considered that the number of infections with the Omicron mutant is no longer important, as much as the cases that will be admitted to hospitals because of it and the care that will be provided to them.

He described the decision to postpone the second semester in schools as “excellent,” noting that with the return of schools on February 20, we will have reached the end of the fourth wave of the pandemic.

Al-Maani said that the pandemic will end, but Corona will remain as a disease.
