The director of the Jordanian Seismological Observatory, Ghassan Suwaidan, confirmed that the area around Lake Tiberias is considered seismically active, indicating at the same time that seismic activity may occur at any moment.

Sweidan added in his speech to the “Pulse of the Country” program on the “Ruya” channel screen, this evening, Sunday, that yesterday evening, Saturday, at 11:40, a large seismic activity with a magnitude of 4.6 on the Richter scale was recorded, followed by 10 aftershocks, whose strength ranged between 2.2 to 2.9 on the Richter scale.

He added that at 12:28 this afternoon, another seismic activity of 4.2 degrees on the Richter scale was recorded, followed by another tremor at 1:10 with a strength of 2.9 on the Richter scale, indicating that this seismic activity and tremors were felt by the residents of the northern region. and Irbid Governorate.

Suwaidan explained that the source of these tremors is south of Lake Tiberias in occupied Palestine, with a depth of 10 km, and west of Irbid with a depth of 20 km.

On the other hand, Professor of Seismology at the University of Jordan, Dr. Najeeb Abu Karaki, said that these seismic patterns do not differ from the previous ones, indicating that it is normal for such tremors to occur in the region, and it is expected that they will occur in the same place almost every year.

Abu Karaki added that the seismic activity that occurred is a phenomenon that is not completely regular, nor is it surprising, and it is a modest, moderate and moderate seismic activity, stressing that there is no cause for concern.
