Al-Khasawneh: a modern investment law – Jordan Newspaper

Prime Minister Bishr Al-Khasawneh confirmed that the Steering Committee for Developing the Legislative Environment Regulating Investment in the Kingdom will work on developing a new law to develop the investment and business environment in partnership with the private sector.

Al-Khasawneh made it clear that this law aims to enhance existing investments in the Kingdom, reduce bureaucratic procedures that hinder the work of investors, in addition to attracting Arab and foreign investment to Jordan.

This came while chairing, on Sunday, at the Prime Minister’s House, the first meeting of the Steering Committee for the Development of the Legislative Environment Regulating Investment in the Kingdom.

Al-Khasawneh indicated that this law will unify legislation related to investment and business in Jordan under the umbrella of a modern law in accordance with international best practices, pointing out that there are about 44 laws and more than 1,800 investment-related regulations and instructions currently.

He pointed out that there are three tracks to work on improving the investment environment in the Kingdom. The first track relates to quick procedures by creating a single window for establishing, registering and licensing economic activities, so that companies obtain a business license within one day.

Al-Khasawneh added that the second track is related to reducing production costs, “and this is what the government has worked on through the new electric tariff, which will reduce production costs on a number of vital economic sectors, including the health, tourism, agricultural, commercial and industrial sectors to raise their competitiveness, motivate the wheel of economic growth and create more Jobs chances.

He continued: The third track that the committee will work on is related to the regulation of legislation related to the investment and business environment in Jordan, in a way that contributes to promoting investment and reducing obstacles facing the work of investors.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Nasser Al-Shraideh, Minister of Justice Ahmed Al-Ziyadat, Minister of Finance Mohamed Al-Asas, Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Ahmed Al-Hanandeh, Minister of Interior Mazen Al-Faraya, Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Youssef Al-Shamali, Minister of Investment Khairy Amro and Minister of Labor Nayef Istitieh.

The meeting was also attended by the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Economy and Investment, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Jordanian Economic Forum, Khair Abu Sa’ilek, Secretary General of the Economic and Social Council Mitri Madanat, Chairman of the Legislation and Opinion Bureau Fidaa Al-Hamoud, President of the Amman and Jordan Chambers of Industry Fathi Al-Jaghbir, and President of the Jordan Chamber of Commerce Nael Kabariti.
