Safadi holds talks with leaders and members of the US Senate and House of Representatives

Today, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, held talks with a number of leaders and members of the US Senate and House of Representatives, the topics of which advanced ways to strengthen the Jordanian-American partnership, and the new memorandum of understanding that the two countries are working to sign this year, as the current memorandum ends, which She framed the annual US support to Jordan over the past four years, at the end of September 2022.

During the talks, Safadi valued the positions of the US Congress in support of the Kingdom and the assistance provided by the United States to Jordan to enable it to support the development process, confront economic challenges, and the consequences of regional crises, especially the burden of asylum, and the consequences of the spread of the Corona pandemic (Covid-19).

During the talks, members of the Senate and House of Representatives affirmed their keenness to develop the distinguished Jordanian-US relations, and their appreciation for the efforts led by King Abdullah II to enhance security and stability in the region. Safadi’s meetings, at the Congress building, included meetings with the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the US House of Representatives, Representative Gregory Mix, and the head of the Republican bloc in the House Appropriations Committee, Representative Kay Granger; And the head of the Republican faction in the Middle East and North Africa subcommittee in the Senate, Senator Todd Young.

Safadi also held talks via videoconference technology with the Chair of the Subcommittee on Appropriations of the US State Department and Foreign Operations in the US House of Representatives, Representative Barbara Lee, the Chairman of the Republican Bloc in the Committee, Representative Hal Rogers, and the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Middle East and North Africa Affairs in the US House of Representatives, Representative Ted Deutch In addition to phone calls with the Republican Caucus Chair in the Senate Appropriations and Foreign Operations Subcommittee, Senator Lindsey Graham; And the chair of the House Appropriations Committee, Representative Rosa DeLauro.

These talks also dealt with a number of regional and international issues, foremost of which is the Palestinian issue.

Al-Safadi described the members of Congress with whom he spoke about the efforts made by the Kingdom to find a real political horizon to achieve a just and lasting peace based on the two-state solution.

During the talks, they discussed efforts to reach a political solution to the Syrian crisis, support for Iraq, fight terrorism and developments in the region.

Safadi will also meet with the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Senator Robert Menendez, and the Chairman of the Republican Bloc in the Committee, Senator James Risch; Chairman of the Senate Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee, Senator Chris Murphy; He is on the phone with Representative Joe Wilson, the Republican Caucus Chair in the Middle East and North African Subcommittee in the US House of Representatives.

Safadi will meet tomorrow at the US State Department building with Foreign Minister Anthony Blinken, and will hold extensive talks with him on bilateral relations and regional issues.

Tomorrow, Safadi will meet with US administration officials, senior thinkers, researchers, opinion-makers, American media professionals and journalists, and American research centers. He will also participate as a keynote speaker in a dialogue organized by the American Brookings Institution on Jordanian-American relations and the latest developments in the Middle East.
