Parliament approves constitutional amendments

The House of Representatives approved, during its session today, Thursday, the draft constitutional amendments as a whole, with 104 deputies who approved the amendments, out of 112 voters, while 8 deputies disagreed with the amendments.
Parliament Speaker Abdul Karim Al-Daghmi announced the success of the constitutional amendments, as it is the first stage of the amendments related to reforming the basic system.
The Council held 9 sessions over 5 days since last Sunday, to discuss the 30 articles amending the current constitution.
The deputies voted, in a legislative session Thursday, to approve Article 21 of the draft amendment to the Jordanian constitution, in amendments that prohibit the combination of membership in the National Assembly and the Council of Ministers.
Article (21) amending Article (76) of the current constitution; It provides for amendments including: the approval of prohibiting the combination of membership of the National Assembly and the Council of Ministers, the approval of prohibiting the combination of the membership of dignitaries or representatives and any public position, and the approval of the non-inclusion of notables and representatives in the amendment of membership allocations if it is in their custody.
On Thursday, the deputies approved Article (6) of the draft amendment to the constitution for the year 2021, which allows for the deletion of a phrase that allows merging the membership of the Council of Ministers and the nation, with a number of 110 votes for approval.
And Article (6) cancels the text of Article 52 of the Constitution and replaces it with the following text to read: “The Prime Minister, the Minister, or whoever represents them has the right to speak in the Senate and the House of Representatives, and they have the right to precede other members in addressing both Houses.”
They also approved the amendment of Article (30), amending Article 128 of the Constitution, by striking out the three-year period stipulated in Article 128 of the Constitution, which was granted to harmonize laws and regulations with the amendment of the Constitution in 2011.
On Thursday, the House of Representatives also approved Article (28) of the draft amendment to the Jordanian constitution for the year 2021, which deals with the establishment of a National Security Council.
The deputies, by a majority of 102 out of 111 deputies, approved the amendment of Article 122 of the Constitution, which establishes the “National Security and Foreign Policy Council,” so that it meets when necessary at the invitation of the King and in his presence or in the presence of his delegate, and its decisions are enforceable once approved by the King, and the affairs of this Council are organized. Under a regulation issued for this purpose.
