Twelve people have been infected with a hitherto unknown strain of coronavirus. And the injured zero is a Cameroonian returning from his country to the city of Marseille in southern France. Therefore, experts assume that the infected person transmitted the virus from Cameroon, the central African country.

The new mutant was discovered by experts at Marseille University Hospital on December 9. It is temporarily named: B.1.640.2

In a preliminary study released on December 29, health experts in the French government said they had identified 46 mutations of this new form of the virus. It appears that this mutant could be more contagious than the original coronavirus.
