The Compass – Energy expert Hashem Akl explained that most of the domestic sector will not be affected by the new tariff for electricity consumption, and stressed that it includes encouraging incentives for early payment, which provides cash liquidity for distribution companies.
Akl explained how to work with the new electricity tariff that will be applied in the first third of this year.
Aqel indicated that 93 percent of the participating citizens will not be affected by the new tariff.
According to Akl, the third bracket, which consumes more than 601 kilowatt hours, is the most affected by the new tariff.
According to Al-Rai, the rise in this segment, which constitutes 7 percent of the number of subscribers, ranges from 10 to 20 dinars, and there are no incentives or support for them.
He said that the segments of the domestic sector were reduced to three segments instead of seven, distributed as follows:
The first is from 1 to 300 kWh, the second is from 301 to 600 kWh, and the last is from 601 kWh and above.
The first four tranches were merged into two tranches, according to Akl, at the following prices: the first tranche 50 fils, the second 100 fils, and the three highest tranches (above 600 kWh) were combined into one tranche at a tariff of 200 fils.
Akl indicated that there is a “subsidy” of about 2.5 dinars for the consumption of 51 to 200 kilowatt-hours and another subsidy of two dinars for the consumption of 201 to 600 kilowatt-hours, which appears in the form of an immediate discount on the bill.
He stressed that this support achieves protection for 90 percent of consumers.
Aqel pointed out that there is an exemption for the first meter for the same owner, and there are also supported exceptions such as family housing (that is, the building in which the brothers live and registered in the name of the father) or the case of polygamy and tenants who meet the conditions and quantities of consumption.
He explained that there is a distinction between participants who own more than one meter, for example, if a person is married to another woman and has more than one house or family housing.
Aqel indicated that there is an application on social media dedicated to registration and does not require conditions other than the family book or a temporary passport, and for the people of the Gaza Strip.
This difference in price goes, according to Akl, to the so-called “international support” and societal responsibility in support of underprivileged families.
Akl gave examples to compare consumption according to the current tariff and the new tariff.
He said if the value of the bill is for consumption of 300 kilowatts according to the current tariff of 15.36 dinars, it will become, according to the new tariff, 15 dinars. And it becomes 13 dinars after re-support.
If the value of the bill is 43.96 dinars according to the current tariff, a consumption of 600 kilowatts, the bill, according to the new tariff, will become 45 dinars and become 43 dinars after restoring the cash support.
The people who will be affected by the increase
But if the invoice value according to the current tariff is 114.66 dinars for the consumption of 1000 kilowatts, it will become, according to the new tariff, 125 dinars, according to the sequence of the value of the segments, which constitutes a difference in the price.
If the bill value is 167.66 dinars when consuming 1200 kilowatts according to the current tariff, it will be 165 dinars at the new tariff.
Aqel warned that the beneficiaries of the support are: Jordanians, people of the Gaza Strip, temporary passport holders, and beneficiaries of the National Aid Fund.

Akl indicated that there are two unsubsidized segments: the first is the one whose energy consumption rate ranges from 1 to 1000 kilowatt-hours at 120 fils per kilowatt-hour. The second is more than 1000 kilowatt-hours at the price of 150 fils kilowatt-hour.
Renewable energy systems are also excluded from the subsidy, and the unsubsidized tariff will be applied to the amount of energy billed per month.
Commercial sector
With regard to the details of the electric tariff for the commercial sector, Akl said that the electric tariff on the sector will be reduced under the new tariff for those who consume more than 2000 kilowatts per month from 175 fils per kilowatt hour to 152 fils.
As for the consumption tariff from 1 to 2000 kilowatt-hours, it remains the same as 120 fils.
Industrial sector
As for the industrial sector, the electric tariff will decrease in varying proportions “according to the type of subscription.”
Akl pointed out that the tariff for the maximum load on the average industrial subscription will be cancelled, and the daytime tariff will decrease from 79 fils to 68 fils, while the night tariff will remain the same as 65 fils.
As for the small industrial sector, consumption from 1 to 10 thousand kilowatt-hours per month will decrease from 61 fils to 60 fils, and consumption by more than 10,000 kilowatt-hours per month will decrease from 71 fils to 68 fils.
With regard to the tariffs of the large industrial sector and the extractive industries, the maximum load tariff was abolished, while the day and night tariffs remained the same.
agricultural sector
As for the agricultural sector, Aqel explained that the maximum load tariff was abolished, and the (flat agricultural) tariff was reduced from 60 fils to 55 fils, and the three-day agricultural tariff was reduced from 59 fils to 55 fils, and the nightly (triple agricultural) tariff remained at 49 fils per kilowatt-hour. The electric tariff for the agricultural sector was amended in 2008 so that consumers of more than 100 amperes can freely move to the triple tariff, which is 59 fils for the day and 49 fils for the night and the maximum load.
hotel sector
As for the hotel sector, the new tariff canceled the sector’s maximum load and unified the tariff (level, triple, day and night) at 82 fils, while the tariff on private hospitals was reduced from the current 160 fils to 140 fils, and the radio and television tariff decreased from 173 to 152 fils.
