New Year’s resolutions often include a lot of goals, ambitions, and activities that each of us intends to implement during the year to make our life better and full of accomplishments, but have you ever imagined making a list of goals related to sleep? The British “Metro” website quoted experts specializing in sleep medicine, some tips that you should keep in mind during the new year to improve the quality of your sleep and enjoy better health, both physically and mentally.
Facing insomnia by getting out of bed
If you’ve been sitting for hours on the bed staring at the ceiling and patiently waiting for sleep to come back, you should stop right away, and instead combat the insomnia by getting out of bed and doing something you find comfortable for a while, before going back to bed.
You could get out of bed for a soothing drink, read several pages in a book on a chair or sofa in your bedroom, or paint, for example.
Keep a sleep diary
A great way to determine what’s best to help you sleep is to keep a notebook with details of your bedtime routine the previous day, noting what you ate, what you did before bed, what time you fell asleep, and whether you slept well.
dim lamp
Harsh lighting in the bedroom can mess with your body clock and keep you awake, so it’s important to have a dimly lit bedside lamp, and lower the lighting levels in your room as bedtime approaches.
Write your to-do list
Do you suffer from insomnia because of your fears about tomorrow and your preoccupation with its details? Work around this problem by writing a list of things you need to do the next day. Write a list before you go to sleep to help you get rid of these stresses from your head long enough to be able to fall asleep.
