The World Health Organization announced that the “Omicron” mutant of the emerging coronavirus is more contagious than the previous known mutant, but it is less dangerous than it.
The organization notes that, according to preliminary data, the “Omicron” mutant can somewhat reduce the effectiveness of vaccines against the emerging coronavirus, but it is less dangerous than “Delta”.
The organization said in a statement, “We have only specific information, and there is no confirmed evidence of the effectiveness of vaccines against the “Omicron” mutant. Preliminary data indicate that significant changes in the ‘Omicron’ mutant protein, causing a decrease in the effectiveness of vaccines against it and its transmission.”
WHO experts believe that the “Omicron” mutation is not as dangerous as the previous mutations, as according to the available data, most of the infections detected were without symptoms or a mild to moderate course of the disease. But it spreads very quickly, more than the speed of the spread of “Delta”, as it has discovered 63 countries and will inevitably move to other countries.
According to the British scientists, 32 mutations were obtained in the “Amicron” mutant, mostly in protein S (Spike protein).
And that changes in the genome of the virus make it more rapidly spreading and more resistant to the antibodies present in the bodies of those who have recovered from “Covid-19” and those vaccinated against it.
