The Speaker of the Senate, Faisal Al-Fayez, said that he was not worried during the events of the Arab Spring as he is in the current period.
Al-Fayez added during a closed session of the Senate, yesterday, Sunday, that the government had to explain to the citizens the reasons for signing a “declaration of intent” with “Israel” and the UAE to study the “energy for water” project, and to clarify Jordan’s interest behind the step, and that the kingdom was obliged to do so.
“No one is defending and coming out for the people,” Faisal Al-Fayez said, during the session, which was attended by about 50 members of the council, referring to the absence of the government and politicians from the local political scene.
Al-Fayez indicated that his concern is due to the bad economic conditions in the country, and said: “I was not worried about the Arab Spring as I am now,” stressing that the priorities of Jordanians are the economy, addressing unemployment and improving living conditions.
The Speaker of the Senate added that “people are not questioned about politics,” and that what concerns them is improving their economic conditions.
