The Egyptian national team defeated the national football team, by three goals to one, in the quarter-finals of the 2021 Arab Cup in Qatar.
The first and second (original) halves of the team’s meeting with Egypt ended with a 1-1 draw, so the two teams moved to play the extra halves.
Ahmed Refaat scored the second goal for Egypt in the 100th minute of the first extra period.
The striker, Yazan Al-Nuaimat, advanced to the national team early in the 12th minute of the match in the first half, when he hit a powerful ball on the left side of the net of Egyptian goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shennawy.
The team had many chances to boost the score in the first half, but the most dangerous of them was Ali Alwan when he hit a ball similar to the first goal, but the post and the crossbar prevented the ball from entering El-Shennawy’s goal.
A minute before the end of the first half, the Egyptian team scored the equalizing goal from the header of striker Marwan Hamdi.
Egypt advanced against Jordan with a second goal at the ninth minute of the first extra period, scored by Ahmed Refaat, and Marwan Daoud added a third goal at the 119th minute of the match, ending with 3 goals for Egypt against one for Jordan.
Al-Naimat almost added the team’s second goal from a counter-attack, but he shot it next to the Egyptian team’s goal.
The match then moved to the additional two halves, and if the Egyptian team continued to advance, it would be able to cross to the semi-finals of the tournament.
The Football Association announced the line-up of the national team that will face its Egyptian counterpart in the meeting, which started at five in the evening.
The national team entered a squad that included Yazid Abu Laila as goalkeeper, Abdullah Nassib, Hadi Al-Hourani and Muhammad Abu Hashish, with the return of Ihsan Haddad, who was suspended for two games in defense.
In the midfield, Baha Abdel Rahman, Nour Al Rawabdeh, Mahmoud Mardi, Muhammad Abu Zureik and Ali Aloun, and in the attack, Yazan Al Naimat.
On the bench: Malik Shalabiya, Moataz Yassin, Yassin Al-Bakhit, Ahmed Thaer, Ibrahim Saadeh, Raja’i Ayed and Hamza Al-Dardour, who became the historical top scorer for “Al-Nashami”.
And he is absent from the team’s squad, Yazan Al-Arab, Muhammad Al-Damiri, Ahmed Asriwa and Baha Faisal due to infection, with Muhannad Khairallah infected with the Corona virus.
The winner of the match between Jordan and Egypt will meet in the semi-finals of the tournament, the Tunisian team, which defeated its Omani counterpart 2-1 in the first confrontations of the quarter-finals.
On Friday, Qatar also qualified for the semi-finals, after its 5-0 victory over the Emirates, as it will play either with Morocco or Algeria in a meeting to be held later on Saturday.
