More than a year after the formation of the government of Bishr Al-Khasawneh, political analysts described his government’s performance in 2021 as “bad”, especially in dealing with the economic challenges facing the country since the beginning of the Corona pandemic.
The Khasawneh government was formed in October 2020 under exceptional circumstances, and analysts say that the government was not able to deal with the effects of the pandemic, and while the challenges were enormous, the government did not put in place effective strategic plans.
Writer and political analyst Hamada Faraana said that the government’s performance was “modest” due to its “inability to address the epidemiological and economic situation.”
He said that the budget deficit increased by more than 950 million dinars, which is “real evidence that (the government) could not only address the problem, but also made it worse.”
Pharaohs stressed that the House of Representatives can contribute to improving the government’s performance by withholding confidence when discussing the draft budget under the dome.
He said that “the House of Representatives has a duty to exercise its constitutional right to decide the government’s fate,” and this may lead to verification and improvement of the government’s performance.
For his part, political writer Jihad Al-Muhaisen said that the inability of the ministers to work in harmony and to make conflicting statements contributed to highlighting the image of a weak government.
Al-Muhaisen added: “You may hear different official opinions on one issue, and this is unacceptable,” adding that citizens in general do not trust this government, and therefore “will reject any decision it takes.”
Economist Tharwat Masalha admitted that “this government was formed under exceptional circumstances, but its ministers failed to develop serious and effective strategic plans or to address the dire conditions that the country has been going through in recent times.”
He said that most ministers failed to add anything of value to the government, but “I still believe that the prime minister has an effective methodology that is overshadowed by the inconsistency among ministers.”
Masalha indicated that if the government wants to address the difficult conditions the country is going through, it needs to establish giant projects, “especially since what most citizens want now is to solve the unemployment crisis” and stimulate investments.
He said that unless investors are encouraged to come to Jordan, “the situation will remain difficult, and will even get worse in the near future.”
