The head of the research team on Omicron, Dr. Issa Abu Dayyeh, ruled out the existence of a local mutation that produced a mutant of the Omicron type of corona virus after a Jordanian infection with no recent travel history.
Abu Dayyeh toldThe kingdom“The issue of mutating locally in the sense that all mutations in SNPs accumulate at such a rapid time is highly epidemiologically unlikely.”
While the head of the National Center for Combating Epidemics and Communicable Diseases, the pioneer of the pole, told “The Kingdom” that the person infected with the new Corona virus (Omicron), and who has no travel history, “may have contracted the virus after it mutated in Jordan.”
Al-Qutb added that “the transmission of the virus between people may lead to its mutation,” explaining that “the locally infected person may have mixed with other people before his infection was discovered.”
On Thursday evening, the Ministry of Health announced the registration of the first two cases of a mutant corona virus of the Omicron type in Jordan, for a Jordanian who came from South Africa, and another Jordanian who “has no recent travel history outside Jordan, and an epidemiological investigation is underway to find out the details of the infection.”
Regarding the second case, Abu Dayyah, an immunologist, spoke of several interpretations, and said that “the absence of travel does not mean the lack of contact with people coming from abroad who carry the virus, and this is one of the scenarios.”
As for the other scenario, it indicates that “the virus is present in sufficient numbers for the existence of community transmissions or infections, and this is unlikely,” according to Abu Dayyeh, who added, “We are still in the first scenario in the early stages of controlling the cases that enter Jordan first-hand, according to the initial surveys.” .
He said, “The issue of mutating locally, meaning that he accumulates all the mutations in the SNPs at such a rapid time, is highly epidemiologically unlikely.”
He pointed out that most of the mutants that entered Jordan came from travelers coming from abroad, then the mutants settled little by little and began to pass from one person to another.
He explained that the Crisis Cell in the National Center for Security and Crisis Management “gathered the concerned parties from the beginning to examine those coming to Jordan through all the crossings, and this led to the conclusion of recommendations approved by the Minister of Health and the Epidemiology Committee related to examining positive samples to find out suspected cases of omicron, and everyone committed to that.”
He said that the two cases infected with the Omicron mutated are subject to quarantine and are monitored by the Ministry of Health and the concerned authorities, adding that their symptoms were mild from the beginning and they are in an excellent health condition.
