Activists staged a protest sit-in on Thursday evening, in front of the Royal Film Commission, to reject and anger the movie “Princess.”
He called for a stand by the National Committee of Jordanian Prisoners and Missing Persons in Zionist Detention Centers, which considered that the film offended the Palestinian prisoners and detainees in the Israeli occupation prisons.
The participants in the stand refused to show the film in Jordanian cinemas and cinemas, and stressed the need to withdraw the film from participating in the International Oscar.
The participants expressed their disapproval over the passage of this film to the official authorities in Jordan and its adoption to represent the Kingdom by being nominated for an Oscar.
The Secretary-General of the Islamic Action Front Party, Engineer Murad Al-Adayleh, toldcompassThe management of the Film Authority has become “a gateway to alienation and normalization, and this is not the first suspicious (princess movie) project that was preceded by the series Jinn and Al Rawabi School, and today they abuse the most noble cause and the prisoners.”
Al-Adayleh demanded the dismissal of the management of the body, which announced its withdrawal of the film’s nomination for an Oscar, and said, “We only accept the resignation of this administration, the accountability of those behind these suspicious acts, and an apology to the prisoners.”
The released prisoner, Fadi Farah, spoke during the vigil on behalf of the National Committee for Jordanian Prisoners and Missing Persons in the Occupation Prisons, “For many years we have made an effort to have someone adopt such acts (movies) to be on the side of the prisoners and explain their suffering and expose crimes not to the occupation, but unfortunately, the Amira movie came out to us. It distorts the idea of smuggled sperm with which the prisoners challenged the occupation to be ambassadors of freedom.”
For her part, actress Juliette Awwad called on the Royal Film Commission, the Artists Syndicate and the Ministry of Information to reveal the official authorities that approved this text (for the film Princess) and who are the financiers, are they countries or people.
Awwad refused to be satisfied with an apology for the film, but demanded that the names of the participants be circulated to all Arab unions and institutions to prevent them from working on artistic projects.
The Royal Film Commission of Jordan, the official body in the country authorized to submit films for nominations for the Oscars, has decided to withdraw the movie “Princess” from the 2022 Academy Awards.
The commission said in a statement: “We appreciate the artistic value of the film and believe that it does not in any way affect the Palestinian cause or the issue of prisoners; On the contrary, it highlights their plight and resistance as well as their yearning for a dignified life despite the occupation.”
And she continued, “This was also the opinion of the members of the independent selection committee, which was formed by the Royal Film Commission, which chose the movie “Princess” among other films to represent the kingdom.”
“Princess” has been shown successfully in several international film festivals, Venice (Italy), El Gouna (Egypt) and Carthage (Tunisia), as well as at the Karama Human Rights Film Festival in Amman. He has won two international awards in Venice.
However, in light of the great controversy raised by the film and its interpretation by some that it harms the Palestinian cause and out of respect for the feelings of the prisoners and their families, the Royal Film Commission decided to stop presenting a “princess” to represent Jordan in the Oscars.
