The Speaker of the Turkish Parliament, Mustafa Sentop, proposed the establishment of a committee at the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, to follow up on the situation of Muslim minorities in non-member countries.
This came in a speech he delivered Thursday, during the sixteenth conference of the Association of Parliaments of Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, which began Thursday in Istanbul.
Shantoub said that Muslim minority communities in countries that are not members of the Association of Parliaments of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation are exposed to violence, injustice and human rights violations.
He added that the union of parliaments of the aforementioned countries should solve this problem, extend a helping hand to Muslims in those countries, and make their voices heard.
And he added, “Based on this principle, I propose to form a special committee within the Political and Foreign Relations Committee of the Union of Parliaments of the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.”
He explained that this committee will monitor human rights in countries that host Muslim minorities, and follow up on their problems closely and institutionally.
He stressed that the committee will also prepare reports on these topics, and transmit them to world public opinion.
