On Wednesday, the Secretary-General of the Tunisian General Labor Union, Noureddine Taboubi, renewed his criticism of Tunisian President Kais Saied, declaring his rejection of the “ambiguous” political path that the country is experiencing.

Al-Taboubi said in a statement carried by Tunisian radio “Al-Diwan”, that the President of the Republic has withdrawn from himself and declared his control over the joints of the state, adding that he must bear his responsibility, according to him.

The Secretary-General of the Labor Union criticized Saeed’s choices, saying that “a path shrouded in ambiguity is unacceptable and the basic system is rejected,” adding that “Tunisia does not belong to anyone and it is time for people to repent to their senses,” according to what Al Diwan Radio reported.

Al-Taboubi stressed that “there is a political life and parties whose exclusion is only through the fund,” stressing that “political reform is the key and a solution to reform the economic and social situation without fake slogans,” as he put it.

It is noteworthy that the President of the Republic delivered a speech on Tuesday evening, during a meeting of the Supreme Council of Armies, in which he accused unnamed political parties of working abroad and financial corruption.

Jawhar bin Mubarak, a political activist and member of the Citizens Against the Coup movement, commented in a Facebook post, saying, “The covenant of honoring the sultans has been overthrown just as we will overthrow your coup.”

He added, “The head of state has done nothing for two years but to fight for the sake of amassing power, selling illusions and cursing people.”

He continued, “We do not expect from you a favour, nor “flexibility,” as these are our rights and the rights of people to express, demonstrate and meet where we want and when we decide,” according to the text of the post.

In the same context, the resigned leader of the Ennahda movement, Abdel Latif Al-Makki, considered that the speech of the President of the Republic, Kais Saied before the Supreme Council of Armies, is politicizing the military institution and involving it in political conflicts, according to what he posted on Facebook.

Al-Makki added that the president’s words “hit one of the foundations of the republic,” explaining that Saeed’s speech embarrassed the army leadership and exceeded their right, according to what he published on his official page.

For her part, Parliament member whose work has been suspended for the People’s Movement, Leila Haddad, expressed in an interview with Al-Sabah newspaper in its Wednesday issue, “We were and are still with Qais Saeed, but we ask him to put an end to the exceptional period,” calling for opening a dialogue with the parties and the national organization supporting the coup 25 July.

Haddad added that the course of July 25 is correct, but it is witnessing a great slowness, explaining that slowness does not help correct the path and reach the benefits of the exceptional stage, according to her opinion.

She continued, “Our support for Qais Saeed is not a blank check,” noting her support for the decision to dissolve parliament, revise the electoral law, and contest new elections.

The Tunisian president is facing a wave of criticism, especially from some of his supporters, such as the former Secretary-General of the Democratic Current Party, Mohamed Abbou, who retracted his support for the July 25 coup.

Mohamed Abbou expressed his regret over the statements he made regarding President Qais Saeed, saying: “I got myself into trouble when I said that the head of state is an honest person and that he does not turn,” according to media statements.
