One country in the world experiences 11% of deaths from road accidents, even though it has only 1% of the total number of active cars on the planet.
According to a report by the Turkish “Anadolu Agency” based on World Bank data, India witnesses 450,000 traffic accidents annually, causing the death of about 150,000 people, which means that it is the country with the highest number of road accident victims.
India witnesses 53 accidents every hour, and one person dies every four minutes due to road accidents, according to the report.
On the eve of the International Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, on Sunday, Piyush Tiwari of the Save Life Foundation, which deals with this phenomenon, said that most deaths occur due to faulty road design and engineering.
“Poor traffic enforcement, lack of prompt trauma care and bad behavior of road users are other reasons for such a high number of deaths on India’s roads,” said Tiwari.
India ranks in this position, knowing that it has the second largest road network in the world, after the United States, and this large road network requires a great deal of enforcement activities.
Tiwari claimed that India spends 30-40 times more money than developing countries on development efforts but ultimately creates unsafe roads and “meaningless” development.
