The American doctor, Sarah Kayat, explained a common mistake that people can make when drinking coffee, as research that indicates the health benefits of the drink focuses on preparing it in a particular way.

“If you want to enjoy the benefits of this hot drink, you should choose the plain black color without any additives,” she said.

She added that recent studies looked at the relationship between stroke and dementia and coffee, and researchers found that this affordable drink reduced the risk of stroke by 32 percent and dementia by 20 percent.

By 2050, 130 million people are expected to develop dementia, and 10 per cent of deaths worldwide will be due to stroke. The two factors are already linked because research has shown that people who have had a stroke are twice as likely to develop dementia, according to the doctor.

The Tianjin Medical University study included 365,682 participants. Of these, more than 5,000 people developed dementia and more than 10,000 had at least one stroke.
