The King in the Throne Speech: We will not allow any party to obstruct partisan work

Today, Monday, King Abdullah II announced the opening of the first regular session of the 19th Parliament.
In his throne speech, King Abdullah II affirmed that Jordan today “is facing a new stage in the path of comprehensive modernization,” stressing that Jordan will remain “an example of progress, sacrifice and overcoming challenges, no matter how large they are. This country is free and dear to its sons and daughters.”
He said, “Experiences around us have proven that the transition within clear programs is the goal to achieve the required modernization in order to preserve the gains and protect stability, and we are determined to move in this direction, to strengthen the sources of the state’s power.”
The king added, “During the past months, we have witnessed great efforts to modernize the political system, which are appreciated efforts within a more comprehensive framework of economic and administrative modernization that the government is working to achieve. The importance of the rule of law over everyone without discrimination or favouritism.”
He called on MPs and dignitaries to stand up to their responsibilities to discuss and approve the parties and elections laws and the constitutional amendments that the government presented to the parliament within the outputs of the Committee to Modernize the Political System, with the aim of reaching a parliament in the future in which youth and women have a prominent role.
The King indicated that “the process of modernization is not limited to a package of laws and legislation, but rather is a process of social and cultural development, in order to ensure progress towards partisan parliaments,” calling on “political forces and parties to assume their role and responsibilities. “.
He explained that with regard to the two tracks of economic modernization and administrative reform, the goal is to build solid foundations for an effective partnership between the public and private sectors to establish investments that stimulate the labor market to benefit from the potentials.
The king continued: “It is time to elevate the country to advanced levels that will make all Jordanians prouder of their great country. This free country, which has completed 100 years of its life and is protected by a modern, advanced constitution, will remain immune to the tampering and ambitions of the greedy.”
The King stressed, “Our country has always been a story of construction and struggle, and detracting from these achievements or belittling them is a grave offense that no one will accept,” pointing out that “Jordan’s strength is its pillar of security and stability. Pride and respect for workers and retirees.”
