A Muslim woman wearing a headscarf was subjected to a racist attack by an extremist citizen in the Austrian capital Vienna, in an incident that reflects the rise of Islamophobia in the country.

Baraat Bulant was subjected to a racist attack, on Friday, by a woman while she was riding in a public bus, according to the Turkish Anatolia Agency.

The agency added, quoting an eyewitness, that the assailant woman spat on Bulant, in addition to trying to pull her veil and remove it, while uttering racist expressions.

He explained that Bulant had published her story through the means of communication, which caused a state of wide interaction with her.

He pointed out that Bulant had taken the necessary legal measures to hold the woman responsible for the racist attack to account.
