Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced that Moscow will stop its support for the mechanism of delivering humanitarian aid to Syria through its borders in the event that the delivery of humanitarian aid through Damascus is not unfrozen.
In a press conference held today, Saturday in New York, following his participation in the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Lavrov said: “If concrete steps are not taken now to unfreeze humanitarian aid deliveries through Damascus, as required by the rules of international humanitarian law, we will stop Support these “transparent matters”.
Lavrov: We will not tolerate terrorist attacks in the Idlib region
Addressing the situation in northwestern Syria, Lavrov stressed that Russian forces are using military force there against terrorists based on a UN Security Council resolution.
The minister said: “With regard to the situation in northwestern Syria, we are using force there in accordance with the requirements of Resolution 2254 of the UN Security Council, which stipulates a resolute fight against terrorism in the land of Syria.”
Lavrov also stressed that Russia will not tolerate attacks by terrorists from the Idlib de-escalation zone against Russian and Syrian army forces.
Lifting restrictions on communications between the Russian and American military
Lavrov also stressed that Moscow calls for lifting restrictions imposed by the US Congress on contacts between the Russian and American military in Syria.
The minister expressed his belief that lifting these restrictions – something called for by the leaders of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff – not only contributed to reducing tension in Syria, but would benefit the development of dialogue between Moscow and Washington on arms.
Lavrov stated that Moscow, in its contacts with Washington regarding Syria, indicated to it the illegitimacy of the US presence in the Syrian territories east of the Euphrates River, and the non-acceptance of the situation resulting from the occupation of the Al-Tanf area by US forces and in the Rukban camp (near Al-Hujoud with Jordan).
He pointed out that contacts between the two sides are taking place between the Russian and US foreign ministries, as well as between the two National Security Councils.
