The US State Department expressed its concern about the continuation of the exceptional measures of Tunisian President Kais Saied, and called on political parties and civil society organizations to formulate a plan with a timetable for extensive reform processes.

“We share the Tunisian people’s goal of forming a democratic government that responds to the country’s needs as it confronts economic and health crises,” State Department spokesman Ned Price said in a press briefing published by the US Embassy in Tunis on Saturday.

“It is of concern to us that the transitional measures are continuing without a clear end,” Price added.

He continued, “President Qais Saeed must appoint a prime minister to form a government capable of meeting those urgent needs.”

“With regard to the measures that led to the way things are now, we believe that the primary work of supporting Tunisia’s progress on its democratic path is more important than discussing the naming of these events, and this is what we focus on,” he said.

And he added, “We, as the general public, call on the Tunisian president to formulate a plan with a clear timetable for an inclusive reform process that includes civil society and diverse political voices.”
